The biggest problem was convincing the states that they all would be treated and represented the same no matter size. The Virginia Plan was proposed, but it favored the big states too much. The smaller states countered with the New Jersey Plan, but it obviously was just a move to help out the smaller states. So there needed to be a combination of both to make it work. Another big problem was the Bill of Rights. The Federalist didn't make a Bill of Rights in the Articles of Confederation, but the Anti-Federalist wouldn't ratify the new constituion without it, so the Federalist did the right thing and just wrote a Bill of Rights to cool off the Anti-Federalist.

Economic woes were prevalent after the revolutionary war. Disputes between states over taxes and land distribution made tense the already tenuous threads of American Unity. The Articles of Confederation did little more than establish a firm bond of friendship between the sovereign-like states. The great minds of the time saw the strife endured by the new Americans and witnessed firsthand the ever-present danger of the mob during incidents like Shay's Rebellion. Hoping to end the danger of such uprisings, they saw fit to "overthrow" the current government, and establish a new one in its stead.

Problems of the post-Revolutionary period and many weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation led to the adoption of the new Constitution. The Articles of Confederation had such little authority that it could not tax or raise a militia, so there was really no protection. The post-Revolutionary period had no "real" government. All states wanted to be treated equally and looked upon the same, whether the state was big or small. I feel that these things and many other weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation led to the new Constitution because people wanted change, but only if the change was to their advantages. This called for a compromise, and the end product was the establishment of the Constitution after a long course of action.

Articles of Confederation couldn't raise tax so they had no money to pay for a militia. Problems of the post-Revolutionary period were the a lot of the states a debt. We started to have rebellions against the government.

The problems that led to the formation of the new constitution were the need of a stronger central government who had powers to tax, raise an army, and control commerce. Without the central government having those powers we were not a country but a alliance of different independent states.

The National Government essentially has NO POWER. Mobs are starting to get a little happy with the rioting and there is a lot of tension between states due to State Government based taxing. Along with this, the Articles of Confederation aren’t cutting it. In order to amend a law 13 out of 13 states must ratify the law (this is impossible to achieve). Representatives aren’t very active because nothing ever happens at the meetings. National government can’t control commerce or raise an army and there is no executive or judicial branch. This creates a total lack of unity between states.

The need for a new constitution was do to the many problems of the Articles of Confederation. There was no strong central government, giving them almost no power at all... they couldn't tax, build an army, or control commerce. The states were disagreeing with eachother about representation (Big State vs. Small State) and rioting was beggining to be a problem!

The creation of a new Constitution was becoming essesntial if America wanted to have a fighting chance as a country. The Articles of Confederation didn't really give the central government any power. With out the power to tax or raise an army it seemed impossible for America to ever take off as a country. States started to disagree and the leaders decided to make a compromise of differen't ideas. The great compromise was formed bringing the best of the "big state and small state" plans together

The Articles of Confederation couldn't tax, have armies, or have a central money system. Also, the Mob were starting to control riots. The states also disagreed about representation.

Daniel Shay and the Newburgh Conspiracy. Right on man. Right on. I couldn't have said it better so I didn't say it better.
