John Adams began to appoint as many federalists to important government positions as he could up until the end of his term. He thought that these "midnight judges" would swing the power of the government for federalists. Although Madison threw out most of the appointments Adams did end up appointing one of the most important chief justices of the supreme court, John Marshall.

When Madison got to office most of the letters still had to be sent out. That is how he was able to throw them out. With this balance created by the Chief Justice being John Marshall it showed that for the time being you could have federalist in office with demorepubs. This made the federalists happy because they felt like they still had an important role and tie in the government. I guess this set an example for the rest of the branches to follow

Timothy you sound so smart! John Marshall had so much to do with this conflict. Since he was in power as the Chief Justice he kept the Ferderalist going in a way or kept them in power. This did make the Federalist very happy.

John Marshall was the main person in this conflict. He was the Supreme Court Chief Justice until the day he retired. So that meant as long as he was there the Federalist party ideas and power would still be in the government.

The balance of power between branches was there because they all have a say about laws. John Marshall was appointed by Adams before he left office as the chief justice of the supreme court. He was a federalist, which inabled them to not be totally ran by democratic republicans in the court room.

The Supreme Court Chief Justice, John Marshall played an important role in this conflict. He was appointed by John Adams at the end of his presidency hoping to revive power of the Federalists. When Marshall was in power, it pleased the Federalists because they felt like they still had power and this helped demonstrate how the branches of government should work. (that branches of gov. should be fair...I guess)

Everyone basically summed it up. John Marshall was the main issue because he was the last surviving Federalist within the "system".
His ideas and beliefs balanced the rest of the government out because they were so contrasting to popular democratic republican belief. The rest of the branches realized that a balance of ideas is healthy because it helps to prevent a branch being overthrown by a radical extremist or whatnot.
